Am I Ready? Some Things to Consider..,

Goldendoodles, with their loving personalities and adorable, teddy bear appearance, are an incredible choice when looking for a four-legged addition to your family. However, as with any dog, families should do their research prior to visiting a breeder. There are factors that are important to consider rationally — which usually means before you’re snuggling an adorable puppy and all rationality goes out the window!

Some important factors to consider when looking to adopt a new Goldendoodle puppy include personality, size, color, coat type, and sex. In addition, it’s important to consider the needs of the puppy, and any adjustments that would need to be made before bringing them home.

Yard Size

The size of your home and yard are an important piece to consider when looking to bring home a new family member. Is there ample space for your dog to safely exercise outside? Is your yard currently secured by a fence? Do you reside in an apartment or condo? Do you own or rent? Have you looked into the pet policy of your building or lease? Are you aware of local parks and public green spaces that can be used daily for exercise?

Size of Dog

There are four sizes of Goldendoodles. Over the generations of crossbreeding Golden Retrievers and Poodles, with the latter offering a wide range of size options, four distinct and common Goldendoodle sizes have emerged.

**BREEDERS HAVE DIFFERENT "OPINIONS" ON SIZING. THESE ARE WHAT WE [MSDNC] CONSIDER TEACCUP, MINI, MEDIUM AND STANDARD. WE CURRENLY ONLY OFFER MINI AND MEDIUM.

  • Teacup Goldendoodles: These are the smallest variety of Goldendoodle. They are commonly between 5 and 14 pounds when full-grown. We do not raise this size

  • Mini Goldendoodles : These pups range from 15-29 pounds and measure 14"-16" at their shoulders. This is what we predominately raise at MSDNC.

  • Medium Goldendoodles: The medium measures approximately 17" to 20" inches at their shoulders and weigh up to 48 pounds. We have options available for this size from time to time depending on which Dam litters the puppies.

  • Standard Goldendoodles: Standards are the largest size available ranging from 50-over 100 pounds. This is what started us at MSDNC, we kept the smallest puppies from each litter, eventually breeding down the size naturally. Our biggest Goldendoodle to date was Bubba, he weighed in at 86 Pounds. His grandfather (Zoey's Dad) was a 110pound Golden Retriever named Duncan. He was very sweet and MASSIVE. A Gentle Giant, as Bubba was described.

Think about the size of your yard and living space, whether or not you will be able to lift your dog, how much food it will require, and even the size of your car. These are just a few of the many questions you will need to consider when debating the appropriate sized dog for you and your family. Take your time evaluating your lifestyle. You want to ensure the best possible match when deciding on which kind of Goldendoodle to welcome into your family.

Personality Considerations

Our puppies are very well rounded. There is always a dominate female or male, sometimes both. But once the puppy is in it's new environment everything changes. We breed for temperament, consistently choosing intelligent, calm, well mannered breeding couples. We started with an amazing Dam, and her qualities were what any breeder would look for when finding the special one. She guided all of the mothers and stepped in to help clean if needed. We handle all of our puppies and ensure their socialization for the best transition to their new homes as possible. We always love when families let the dog pick them, it always works for the best relationship!

Male or Female?

Some families are looking for a specific sex when adopting their new family member and will ask to only meet the puppies of that particular sex. Sometimes they simply prefer one over the other. Other times, they have additional pets and are trying to create a good balance within their households. If the sex of your new Goldendoodle is important to you, add this consideration to the list of factors to be decided.

Many hear that boys mark everything, and that is just simply not true. The boys will mark if you have other animals in the home that have, and or if you allow them to mark with no repercussion. We have had many boys in the home that have bred and do not mark anything. Male Dogs also tend to bond with Female Humans.

Some families do not want to have to deal with a female coming into heat, which is also understandable, and can be a deciding factor..

Coat Type

We only offer the "poodle" type coat. Our Goldendoodles have been specifically bred to have the desired curly, poodle coat.
